The Reality of Girls and Women coming out of dysfunctional environments.
Never Affirmed, Never Loved, Never Delighted in.
Girls grow up hopeless and insecure.
With a sense of worthlessness falling prey to what they have only known; Violence
We wonder, why can they just get out?
Never given encouragement. Attempting to regain feeling accepted suffering in silence the dark stories they never dare to tell.
Some reach out for help, some take a hold of the help that is given. Placed in a Shelter out of the households they have known.
Glimpses of a future free of abuse. For themselves, for their children. A life, they hadn’t dared to live.
Strange Peace, A bright start. out of the depression that stole their days away.
The heart starts stabilizing as healing suddenly appears. Now, they’ve Got to make it on their own.
Only if they don’t get overwhelmed with what they’ve got yet to face. In their broken identities, permeated by trauma; full of confusion, fear, and guilt
They’re most likely to go back to abusers if they’re not able to find community and work environments suitable to recover.
The building up of an individual takes more than a shelter.
A Community that embraces, and replaces the family that was never supportive is foremost needed. The Mental and Emotional whirlwind is triggered by authority figures, pressure, productivity, that may paralyze with feelings of inadequacy.
Sent back to what they have only known. In many cases, Prostitution.
An open door to a safe community could look like a life – skills workshop that is trauma-informed.
Survivor Women and girls need to be taught how to survive, live, and thrive, in healthy environments out of exploitative situations. As Self-Esteem is built up, Tools and Resources are Taught, In areas where they will intuitively excel.
I have met most Talented women, with a unique perception of beauty and life only someone who has fought to survive can achieve. They see beauty in unexpected ways and graciously appreciate the chances given.
Could Women who need that encouragement, patient support, and commitment in a safe and uplifting environment turn into the successful independent empowered entrepreneur?
The Restoration workshop teaches life skills as the starting point for a tangible therapeutic avenue. Restoring small pieces of furntiure teaches girls about their own value as well as being a practical way of selling their own art. The Life Skills Workshop seeks to give an opportunity with a Business Model tailored with recovery in mind.
Now, in the developmental phase and research of how this model could be implemented. As a study case, myself having started the workshop on my own. From restoring antiques scaled up to restoring a Famous Landmark Home in New York City.
